Current Members
2024/2025
The ABYA is proud to introduce our current members for the 2024/2025
year who are here to ensure that the future for Airdrie youth remains bright.
Madison, Chair
2020/2025
Hello, my name is Madison and I have been a member of the ABYA since 2020. I’m currently studying art at the Alberta University of the Arts with a concentration in painting, as well as jewellery and metals. I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of the amazing community of Airdrie for more than a decade, calling it my home for close to 17 years. I’ve always been passionate about connecting and uplifting my community and the people in it and the ABYA has given me many opportunities to do so. From the beginning, it has been a very welcoming and supportive environment; everyone is driven and devoted to making Airdrie a better place. It is an honour to be able to use my voice, my perspective, and my ideas to invoke positive change in my community and to have a hand in building its prosperous future! It has been and continues to be an incredible journey with a wonderful group of people; I am eager to see what our future brings.
Ashlyn, Vice Chair
2023/2025
Hi, my name is Ashlyn, I joined ABYA in September 2023. In grade six, I won an award for Mayor for a Day with my idea of a pollinator garden. This award led to the idea of joining the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs. I also joined the board because I want to be more aware of what is happening in my community and to interact with City Council and Airdrie’s youth.
Mirza
2021/2025
Hello, my name is Mirza. This is my fourth year with the ABYA and thus far it has been an amazing experience allowing me to engage with issues that I am extremely interested in and affect me personally. I am currently studying Biomedical Sciences at the University of Calgary. I feel very interested about topics related to health, especially as it relates to youth, and therefore getting to have a say in current problems such as vaping affecting youth health through the ABYA has been an extremely interesting experience. I went to school in Calgary and therefore haven’t been able to meet many of my Airdrie peers, so by being in the ABYA and previously participating on the Airdrie Junior Achievement team I have been able to meet many fascinating people that I have and will continue to learn much from. I am very excited to continue to be a part of the ABYA and learn from the wonderful individuals who are in it.
Tami
2021/2025
Hello, my name is Tami and I have been with the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs since 2021. I joined ABYA because I believe in the importance of giving youth a voice in their community. Through ABYA, I have been able to represent youth in Airdrie in different matters with many municipal departments.
Demi
2023/2025
Hey, I’m Demi! I joined ABYA in 2023 and I am very happy to be a member of this team, and enjoy hearing about the different ways we could make Airdrie more appealing to youth The people at ABYA are very creative and supportive. I take a lot of interest in youth activities in Airdrie, because they are great ways to meet like-minded people. I participate in sports such as badminton, and baseball. I enjoy crocheting and reading books, my favourite book genre is fantasy. I take interest in computer science, because my dream career is becoming a game developer.
Mehak
2024/2025
Hi, I’m Mehak! I’m a high school student with a passion for leadership, creativity, and making a difference in my community. Volunteering in Airdrie schools has given me the chance to connect with younger students and create positive spaces that bring people together. I also run my own business, where I blend creativity with cultural celebration, which has deepened my appreciation for Airdrie’s diverse community. Through the Airdrie Board of Youth Affairs, I’m excited to give back by helping create opportunities for young people to feel valued, connected, and inspired to shape the future of our city.
Reese
2024/2025
Hello, my name is Reese, and I am in grade 12 at Bert Church High School. I joined the board in 2024 and am very excited to contribute my experiences and outlook to the board. My family moved from Calgary when I was two years old and I had the pleasure of calling Airdrie my home ever since. I have previous experience volunteering around the community at the Airdrie Food Bank, public library, and with Youth Volunteer Corps. I plan to study computer science next year in university. I am honoured to be a part of ABYA and look forward to seeing all we achieve as a board this year!
Diksha
2023/2025
Hey, I’m Diksha, and I’ve been a part of the ABYA since 2023. I’m currently a grade 10 student, especially passionate about Youth Mental Health, as well as cultural awareness and inclusion. For me, ABYA is an exciting opportunity to get involved in local issues that impact youth in our community. It’s a great platform to connect with other youth who share similar goals and have the potential of bringing ideas to life that can make a real difference. When I’m not at ABYA meetings, you can probably catch me watching something nice, eating something delicious, or playing badminton! I’m really looking forward to working with everyone and seeing what we can accomplish this year!
